President of India: India is a federal nation, but in terms of Constituency India is a ‘Union of States’. Here we found two Governing. One is Central Government and the second one is State Government. Head of both the Government is the President of India. President of India controls Central Government directly and state Government through governor of each state.
The President of India is elected indirectly through the members of the Parliament, the assembly and the Legislative Assembly. They elect the President of India through voting. The President of India is the First citizen of India. He is the head of the Constituency. The president election happens in each and every 5 years.
Eligibility Citeria to Become the President of India
Following are the eligibility criteria to become the President of India:
- He must be an Indian People.
- He must appeared the age of 35.
- He must be eligible to become the member of the Parliament.
- A person will not eligible for a president Candidate, if he holds any Profitable or office of profit.
- Must not be the part of the Central Government or State Government.
List of all President of India
From the year 1947 to 2019 we have seen 14 working Presidents in India. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first President of Indian Constitution and Ram Nath Kovind is our current working President.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad
Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the longest served and first President of India. He started his term in 26th Januray, 1950 and served till 13th May, 1962. He was the leader of Indian National Congress. He was also served as the president of the Constituent Assembly. He was also the great leader of India’s Independence campaign. Finally, in 1962 he was awarded with the Bharat Ratna and after one year he left the world.
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the second President of India. He started his term as President of India in 13th May, 1962 and completed his term in 13th May, 1967. His date of birth was 5th Septembe, 1888. We celebrate his birthday Teacher’s Day in India. He awarded with the Bharat Ratna in 1954.
Dr. Zakir Husain
Dr. Zakir Husain was the first President of India from Muslim religion. He started his work as president of India in 13th May, 1967 and last date of his term was 3rd May 1969. He was the first President of India who died in the office. After the death of Dr. Zakir Husain Varahagiri Venkata Giri (V V Giri. Vice President of India) become the temporary President of India. After few month V V Giri also resigned and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (Mohammad Hidayatullah) played the role of President. He was awarded with both Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan.
Varahagiri Venkata Giri popularly known as V.V Giri. He was the first Indian President who worked both as Vice- President and President of India. He was appointed as the President of India on 24th August, 1969 and his term was finished on 24th August, 1974. Mr. V.V Giri was served as High Commissioner of India at Sri Lanka. He also has awarded with Bharat Ratna.
Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed
Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed was the second Muslim religion President of India and also the second President who died in the office. He was belonging to Indian National Congress before taking the President elect. He was the President at the time of Emergency in India. He was elected on 24th August, 1974 and his term ended on 11th February, 1977.After his death Basappa Danappa Jatti Vice-President of India appointed as the President of India.
Neelam Sanjiva Reddy
Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was the sixth President of Republic India. He was the member of Parliament and belonging to the Janata Party. He sat on the President Chair in 25th July, 1977 and blow off the chair in 25th July, 1982. He was the youngest President of India at that time.
Zail Singh seventh President of India. He belongs to Punjab and was the Chief Minister of Punjab. He also worked as the Home Minister in the Central Government. He appointed as President of India on 25th July, 1982 and his term was ended on 25th July 1987. He was a leader of the Indian National Congress Party.
Ramaswamy Venkataraman was a lawyer and a Politician in the profession. He was chosen as the President of India in 25th July, 1987 and his term ended in 25th July, 1992. He was a team leader during India’s Independent. He also was belonging to Indian National Congress.
Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma
Shankar Dayal Sharma was the ninth president of India and was the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He was also the cabinet minister in the central Government and Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Maharastra. He joined as the President of India in 25th July, 1992 and his term ended on 25th July, 1997.He was one of the top most leader of Indian National Congress.
Kocheril Raman Narayanan
Kocheril Raman Narayanan was the tenth President of India, first Dalit President of India and 9th Vice- President of India. He worked as President of India from 25th July, 1997 to 25th July, 2002. He was the ambassador of India at USA, China, Turkey and Thailand.
Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam
Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam was the eleventh President of India. His full name is Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. He is popularly known as “Missile Man of India”. He played a big role in the development of India’s ballistic missile and nuclear weapons. He served as the President of India from 25th July, 2002 to 25th July, 2007. He was the first President of India who won with approximately 90% vote share. He was the key scientist of India who played a big role during the Pokhran-2 Nuclear test. He was awarded with Padma Bhusan, Padma Vibhusana, Bharat Ratna and many important awards.
Pratibha Singh Patil
Shrimati Pratibha Singh Patil was the first women President of the Indian Constituency. She was also the first woman to fly Sukhoi Aircraft and the first Governor of Rajsthan. She served as the President of India from 25 July, 2007 to 25 July, 2012. She was belonging to the Indian National Congress party.
Pranab Mukherjee is one of the top most powerful leader of Indian National Congress. He served as the Finance Minister before his joining as the President. He served as the president of India from 25th July, 2012 to 25th July, 2017. He was awarded the best Parliamentary Award in 1997 and Padma Vibhushan.
Ram Nath Kovind
Ram Nath Kovind is the current active President of India. He is the fourteenth President of India and second Dalit President. He was the Governor of Bihar and MP from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is also the first president from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He started his work as the President of India in 25th July, 2017.
